Van Beukenhout has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre (Honours) from the University of Winnipeg.

She has co-founded two theatre companies: Avera Theatre (defunct) and Little Echo Theatre (funct), with which she has produced and performed countless plays. She has also acted for Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Shakespeare in the Ruins, and Theatre Incarnate.
