Ann Hodges is a well-established director living in Winnipeg and working in theatre and opera across the country. A graduate of the National Theatre School (Directing, class of '92) she was a founding member of Shakespeare in the Ruins. She has directed productions for all the theatres in Winnipeg, most recently Jabber for MTYP, The Hound of the Baskervilles for PTE, August: Osage County for MTC and Mary Poppins for Rainbow Stage. She is currently serving as Artistic Associate for PTE.
Selected theatre credits include The Lonely Diner Blyth Festival, The Secret Mask and Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet GCTC, Urinetown Dry Cold, Top Girls, Jitters, Other Peoples' Money Manitoba Theatre Centre, Anne Neptune Theatre, Bashir Lazhar Theatre Projects Manitoba, The December Man Prairie Theatre Exchange, Urinetown (SATA Outstanding Production), Beauty and the Beast and Strike Persephone and Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth and Twelfth Night Shakespeare in the Ruins.
Selected Opera credits include directing Madama Butterfly, Die Fledermaus and The Elixir of Love (Manitoba Opera), Idomeneo (Pacific Opera Victoria), Bremen Town Musicians (Opera Lyra Ottawa).
Also an accomplished librettist, Ann’s new adaptations of Cenerentola, Hansel and Gretel, and The Barber of Barkerville have been produced by Vancouver Opera, Calgary Opera, Saskatoon Opera, Opera Lyra, Edmonton Opera. Ann wrote and directed Vancouver Opera's acclaimed Naomi’s Road (composed by Ramona Luengen) which toured Western Canada and the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.
Career highlights include directing over 1,000 performers in the Opening Ceremonies of the North American Indigenous Games, and being one of 10 international directors invited to participate in a workshop with Peter Brook at England’s National Theatre.
