Winnipeg Jewish Theatre

The Winnipeg Jewish Theatre (WJT) is entering its 27th exciting season of keeping Jewish culture alive and well in Winnipeg. The theatre’s mandate is to present professional theatre of high artistic quality that reflects the Jewish experience of the past, present and future; to encourage the creation of new Canadian plays of Jewish interest; to encourage the development and participation of Canadian playwrights, performers, production personnel; and to promote a better understanding of Jewish culture in the community at large.

Artistic Mission Statement

WJT’s purpose and mandate include:

To present plays on themes of Jewish interest and/or plays by Jewish playwrights.

To reach across communities through presentation of socially relevant plays and engage our audience in dialogue.

To provide a vehicle for neophyte actors, playwrights, directors, technicians to participate in professional theatre.

To encourage the development and presentation of new Canadian plays of Jewish interest and/or by Jewish playwrights.

A Jew Grows in Brooklyn

Bad Jews

The hottest show in New York last season now makes its Canadian premiere at Winnipeg Jewish Theatre. This comedy, with serious undertones is all about family or anyone who’s ever been to a giant family function.

Daphna has just returned from Israel, empowered by her journey and in love with an Israeli soldier. Meanwhile, her cousin Liam has fallen for Melody who is anything but Jewish.
