The Baby Grand Theatre was co-founded in 1985 by Sarah Garton Stanley and Eric Kaskens in Kingston, Ontario.
The Story
Nancy Helwig, then Artistic Producer of The Grand Theatre in Kingston took an interest in Kaskens and Stanley after their successful collaboration (He producing and She Directing) on a QMT production of Chicago in the winter of 1985. The wrecking ball was set to hit The Grand Theatre in one year's time and Helwig offered Kaskens and Stanley a broom closet that was soon to become the first true alternative space in Kingston.
