Shadow Theatre is an Edmonton theatre company founded in 1989 based out of the historic Varscona Theatre.
Mission
To produce contemporary theatre for an adult audience, that inspires and entertains while keeping story of paramount importance. Shadow Theatre is a thriving, respected and well funded theatre whose home is a modern, fully equipped Varscona Theatre. We choose the finest plays from around the world which will move our audience's hearts and open their minds.

Play Development
Shadow Theatre is proud of our commitment to new play development. Our primary focus with this program is to work with emerging playwrights who have not yet been produced by a PACT (Professional Association of Canadian Theatre's) company as it serves both our passions and our mandate. At the same time, we continue moving our playwright-in- residence in challenging new directions. We are always actively engaged in looking for playwrights whose skills and philosophies are a good match for the company, and we are passionate about contributing in a significant way to the Canadian canon of plays. Our program differs from others in our community as we actively seek out up and coming writers with passion and a great idea.
