New Aesthetics Performance Intensive

The New Aesthetics Performance Intensive is a two-week intensive designed for 20 experienced artists from around the world interested in expanding their artistic practices through instruction from experts at the forefront of contemporary international performance. New Aesthetics happens every summer in Vancouver, Canada and is hosted and produced by Theatre Replacement with community partners SFU School for the Contemporary Arts and PuSh International Performing Arts Festival.

The intensive consist of full day, 5 days a week studio instruction for participants as well as lectures and public evening events where the facilitators and participants share their practice with the public at large. The first iteration held July 22 – August 2, 2013 was taught by Crystal Pite (Canada) and Pol Heyvaert (Belgium) and was attended by 20 participants from across Canada and three from the US. In 2014, New Aesthetics took place August 4 ­– 15 and featured instructors Toshiki Okada (Japan) and Mariano Pensotti (Argentina). 2015 instructors are Sarah Thom and Mat Hand from the UK/Berlin collective, Gob Squad.
