MICHAEL WHEELER Executive Director & Transformation Designer is Founding Artistic Director of Praxis Theatre. He has co-self-produced his own work as part of collectives in Toronto for more than a decade, most recently as director of Section 98 (HATCH), Jesus Chrysler (in Association with Theatre Passe Muraille), You Should Have Stayed Home (National Tour) and Rifles (Next Stage - 2 Dora Nominations).

He has worked as a Curator with The Theatre Centre and Harbourfront Centre, trained as a director with Tarragon Theatre and Volcano Theatre, and was a Neil Munro Intern Director at The Shaw Festival. Michael is a co-creator of SpiderWebShow, Praxis Theatre’s online collaboration with Neworld Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects and The English Theatre at The National Arts Centre. He has taught 'Social Design' as an instructor with The National Theatre School’s Directing Program, and a lecturer at Queen's University.

Michael has won The SummerWorks Arts Professional Award, A Harold Award, Two Canadian Blog Awards, and was a Toronto Arts Foundation Emerging Artist Award Nominee. He holds a Masters of Fine Arts from The Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University.
