Kill Your Television
Kill Your Television Theatre is an Edmonton-based independent theatre collective. It was founded in 2001 by Co-Artistic Directors Nathan Cuckow and Kevin Sutley along with Chris Fassbender. The company has received seven Elizabeth Sterling Haynes awards and twenty-six additional award nominations. [1] They were described by Vue Weekly as "a force to be reckoned with on the Edmonton theatre scene". [1] They have an official website and can also be found on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
Mandate
Kill Your Television Theatre is dedicated to:
- Excellence: Presenting "high quality, engaging, entertaining and thought-provoking theatrical productions". [1]
- Culture: "Showcasing the talents and encouraging the development of Edmonton-based artists". [1]
- Innovation: Offering a queer perspective and exploring "the experience of ‘the other’ in our society". [1]
Production History
To date, Kill Your Television has produced a total of fourteen plays and musicals. Their performances take place in the Arts Barns and Varscona Theatres in the Old Strathcona district in Edmonton. [2] Their shows been included in lineups such as Fringe Theatre's Arts at the Barns Presentation Series and Theatre Network's Roxy Performance Series. [3] Their 2002 piece Shakespeare's R&J is set to return to the stage in January of 2018.
