Jakob Creighton

Jakob Creighton (born May 16, 1995) is a Canadian actor, singer, and writer. He is currently based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is fully bilingual, speaking English and French.

Training

While in high school, Jakob trained with Neptune Theatre's Youth Performance Company, and was in three of their fall productions between 2010 and 2012. His most memorable role with the company was as The Baker in Into the Woods which was performed in 2012.[1] Jakob holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice from Université de Moncton (class of 2018). He studied at Randolph College for the Performing Arts from 2019 to 2020, but did not finish due to the pandemic.

Career

Performer

Creighton made his professional début in October 2015 in the second iteration of the oratorio La Vallée des Possibles for the Société de la Vallée de Memramcook.[2][3] [4] He has since performed in numerous stage productions.

While preparing for his first operatic lead in Dido and Aeneas, he blogged about his experience for BroadwayWorld.com.[5]

In December 2018, he was cast in a supporting role in an indie feature film that was shot in Halifax, NS. The film is currently set for a 2022 release.

In late March 2020, Jakob participated in Isolate Nights with Villain's Theatre in Halifax. The event was short plays written specifically for theatre artists in isolation at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In April 2020, Jakob was set to have his début performance at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto with the VOCA Chorus, however the engagement was cancelled due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Jakob appeared in an episode of the third season of the acclaimed CBC series "Diggstown".

In 2022, Jakob will be a performer in the digital theatre work "Feeling Mental Health", a collective creation by Caravan Theatre. It is slated for release in February 2022. Jakob also composed the music for the show.

Writer

As a writer, his début teleplay Leaving the Nest received various accolades in 2015 and early 2016. His début novella was released via Amazon in December 2019.[6] He has completed his first novel which is set to be released in 2022 or 2023.

In July 2021, he began working on a new musical as the arranger and orchestrator.

Jakob is currently developing a biographical drama mini-series.

Educator

As an educator, Jakob started teaching private voice and beginner piano in 2014. In 2017, he joined the musical theatre and voice faculty at the School of Atlantic Ballet in Moncton, New Brunswick. Jakob taught elementary music during the 2018-2019 school year in Nova Scotia. He left due to mental health reasons and to pursue musical theatre performance studies. Due to the pandemic, he returned to the classroom to teach high school drama and French Immersion. In 2021-22, he taught grade 5 classroom.

Through his three teaching positions, Jakob has taught in both English and French.
